Nigel Rose Biography

Nigel started in advertising at Leo Burnett in 1967. He spent 8 years there, and then in 1975 he joined Collett Dickenson & Pearce.

Nigel spent the next 18 years at CDP becoming a member of the board and then was made their Head of Art in 1984. He created award winning campaigns for Mary Quant, Clark’s shoes, Wrangler jeans, Pretty Polly and Benson & Hedges.

In 1993 he took up the position of Creative Director at TBWA where he created the now legendary ‘HELLO BOYS’ Wonderbra campaign for Playtex.

Two years later he left TBWA to partner the Executive Creative Director Mark Wnek at Euro RSCG as their Head of Art and Vice Chairman. Whilst there Nigel helped to win back the Wonderbra account for Euro across Europe. He also won the Alberto Culver business for the agency and created a press campaign for Lovable bras, this was voted the best underwear campaign by the editorial team at Vogue. He also along with Mark created the award winning Peugeot 406 commercial “Thoughts” that in 1997 was voted the publics favourite car commercial. Jeremy Clarkson said “Never mind the car I’ll buy the ad”.

Because of the success of Peugeot he then went on to be the UK Creative Director for Citroen for three and a half years and at the same time became the European Executive Creative director for Intel for five years. He also created The Abbey National campaign staring the then young comedian Alan Davis. Nigel more recently won the Matalan account for the agency creating four commercials for them and at the same time won and successfully relaunched Mateus Rosé.

At the end of July 2006 Nigel left Euro and is now freelancing and has just written and completed a commercial for ad agency Ignito for Echo Falls wine (sales rose by 38% in the dreadfully wet summer of 2007) using a piece of music written by the Art of Noise.

Nigel took up full time painting in the summer of 2007. His painting is mainly figurative, although early in 2008 he completed a series of large paintings of the tiger shark at the London Aquarium.

He had his first combined/open studio show in November of 2007 at Wimbledon Art Studios.

He sold seven of his paintings. This was a good start to his path as a painter as he was told; you do not expect to sell on your first show.

Second open studio show at Wimbledon art Studios May 2008. Nigel sold six paintings, two drawings and gained a commission for a painting. Also a London gallery came forward; The John Bloxam Gallery now represents Nigel. The gallery has sold a large work of Nigel’s to Mark Owen of Take That and another large piece to Eric Landard, Madonna’s wedding cake maker.

Third open studio show in December of 2008. Nigel embarked on a series of paintings depicting the female nude. He sold six paintings, two of them to one collector who now owns four of Nigel’s paintings.

Fourth combined studio show May 2009. Nigel produced a series of nude paintings and some nude life study drawings. He also embarked on a very large oil of Robert Di Nero and a large painting of Bob Dylan, and two portraits of Alfred Hitchcock, despite the recession Nigel had his best show to date, selling both Alfred Hitchcock’s, four nudes, the Bob Dylan and many of his drawings
